Re.Group to deliver for Scotland in UK Deposit Return Scheme
September 30, 2026
Re.Group is pleased to have been selected to play key a role in the delivery of the United Kingdom's new Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), bringing our extensive Australian container scheme experience to one of the world's largest circular economy initiatives.
Scheduled to commence in October 2027, the UK DRS will introduce a refundable deposit on eligible PET plastic, aluminium and steel beverage containers across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Re.Group will play a critical role in the scheme’s delivery, providing collection logistics and processing of containers for all of Scotland.
The scheme is expected to capture billions of containers each year, reducing litter and creating high-quality material streams for recycling back into new containers.
Re.Group Managing Director David Singh said the appointment was an exciting opportunity to apply the company's extensive experience at an international scale.
"Re.Group is thrilled to be working with EfC to help deliver the UK DRS. Having delivered DRS services at scale in Australia, we have seen first-hand the positive impact these schemes have on communities and the environment; we are excited to be working with EfC and our logistic partners Hargreaves Services, leading provider of contract services and logistics with a long history of activity across Scotland, to deliver great outcomes for the people of Scotland," he said.
Re.Group operates container collection infrastructure across Australia, including fast-count depots, reverse vending machines and bag drops, while our broader recycling operations provide expertise in the logistics, sorting, processing and technology required to recover high-quality recyclable material at scale.
Re.Group through its Return-It business participates in the container deposit schemes of every mainland Australian state, as well as the ACT, where we deliver as Network Operator. The company also brings extensive recycling experience across Australia and New Zealand, supported by our specialist engineering and recycling capability.
The UK appointment represents a significant opportunity to bring that experience to a scheme of global significance, and contribute to the development of the infrastructure required to support the UK's transition towards a more circular economy.
